Yeppoon

Day two at Yeppoon saw us making the most of the beautiful weather and spending as much "sunsafe" time at the beach as possible.  We stayed until mid morning....

Swimming and playing in the sand...

and building scary sand Crocodile's with Dad!!!

After some home Schooling, we were back out on the beautiful beach for a swim and a play, then home for dinner and finally, a walk along the beach until dusk.

Hayley is learning how the sun and the moon control the tides...
"Earth's tides are produced by the gravitational attractions of the moon and sun. Although the moon is millions of times smaller than the sun, its proximity to the earth gives it a tidal influence more than twice the sun's. Opposing the direct gravitational forces are centrifugal forces which produce a tidal bulge on the side of the earth away from the moon, resulting in two high tides per day for most locations."  Interesting!

We found some little crabs...

And Isabella overcame her fear...

"I know all about sand writing Mum"

Hayley can't believe how big the shells are here!!

She has the whole beach to dance on.

The moon gave us plenty of light to find our way back as we say goodbye to the beach for another day.

Until next time, Caz xo

We are up to date, woohoo!!

After a quick stop in Proserpine, the drive to Mackay was a wet one but by the time we arrived, the rain had eased.  So we found a little caravan park and settled in for the night.  The next morning we headed out to explore Mackay.  It's a pretty place with lots to do for the kids, the information centre is a must if you have never visited and the lady who served us there was more than accommodating to our needs.
We went for a drive to Melba house, they will be celebrating her 150th birthday and it was a must on our to do list.

Then
Dame Nellie Melba’s house, Marian, 1931
Dame Nellie Melba’s house, Marian, 1931. ‘Mr Armstrong, the late Dame Nellie Melba's husband, was one of the first managers of the old Marian Sugar Mill, in the Mackay district. The house depicted above was built for Melba and her husband. It has since been shifted to another site and is occupied by the Chief Engineer (Mr Guilford), and the house of the present manager (Mr O’Neil) is erected on the original site of Melba’s home. Mr Dave Coyne, one of the oldest pioneers of Marian, remembers Melba in the early days of Marian. Taken from the North Queensland register.’ Queensland agricultural journal, 1931.                                          Now

Next was Marian and Mirani.  A nice little museum, not pictures allowed inside but here is us attempting to play the thong pipes!!  And failing miserably by the way :D

Where's that train....

Well, we gave up on the train and headed back to Mackay where the kids enjoyed a dip in the lovely Blue water lagoon...

and for a walk along the blue water forefront...

a place where the Sun, the birds, the trees and even the moon put on an incredibly beautiful performance....

Of course the kids had a play at this park too :D

The next morning saw us saying goodbye to Mackay and heading south to eventually end up at the stunning little beach side town of Clairview..but a few stops on the way turned out to have some nice photo opportunities...

The sign reads "How long to go Dad" hehehe

A long way yet kids!

Some Brolgers

and finally, the gorgeous Clairview.....

Even the amenities were beautified by a local artist.

So we stayed in Clairview for the night and left early the next morning...I have a feeling I'll be seeing Clairview again...

Ohh, blocks of land for sale, right on the water...nice :)

Next stop, Marlborough..a cute little town with friendly people and a fantastic museum, and yes, we were allowed to take pictures...

But first, a quick swing...priorities ;-)

Yes, I found the shoes, gorgeous!!  :D

The sulkies restoration was just like new.

Then dusk saw us back in beautiful Yeppoon, and this time, no rain, only a beautiful setting sun on a glorious day!!

A quick splash

Hmmm not too sure.

Look out Dad, I'm coming in!

Hayley's sand house ;-)

The day is almost done.

Going...

Going...

Gone.

We stayed right until the last drop of light but it was time to go back to the caravan park.

So now we're up to date and we'll be staying in Yeppoon until Tuesday.  I hope you've enjoyed our blog to date, check back soon, there'll be plenty more, Caz xo
