Yeppoon, Caliope and Turkey beach

Yeppoon, day three, rain rain rain!  So we spent the day in the caravan doing school work and some craft.  The skies were a little clearer on day four so we packed up and continued south.   But the further we drove, the more it rained so we drove straight through to Caliope where we camped on the banks of the Caliope river...

They've permanently closed this road due to the amount of water running across the causeway...

The girls found their own version of local critters.

Finally, a chance to get some washing dry!!

We headed off early the next morning with the intention of arriving in the town of 1770 by early afternoon, but as this trip has taught us, going off the track is where all the interesting things happen.  We saw a sign for a tourist drive to Mt Larcom...or so we thought!  We ended up in a cute little beachside town called Turkey Beach.  It was small, cute and very secluded, a fishermans paradise and there were a lot of fishermen!  They tow their boats with tractors and almost every home has a boat or evidence of one.

The rain found us again.  Lots of families were out fishing, several trawlers were trying their luck but it was the old stinger net that caught my eye in this picture.  We have seen lots of stinger nets in Queensland but this is the first "old style" stinger net we've seen.  They obviously still work.

Lots of places to talk about next time, until then, happy travelling,  Caz xo
